Endurance World Cup Dubai - March 2003

Gilliyan Carter - Equine Sports Massage Therapist has just returned from her trip to Dubai with the British Endurance Team consisting of Beccy Broughton, Jane James, Bernie Leadon-Bolger & Philip Hirst. Gilliyan flew out on 22nd March to join the team and continue her regime of treatments. Beccy's horse, Rawnq is a regular client of Gilliyan's and she has been working with her on a weekly basis to ensure peak performance for the 130k race. The horses had been out in Dubai since the end of February to acclimatise & complete final training ready for the race. Gilliyan arrived just in time to give assessment checks & well earned relief to tired muscles.

Beccy Broughton & Rawnq managed to complete 64k before being vetted out through slight lameness, but as the weather was 41º & supporting a terrible sandstorm, it was perhaps a blessing in disguise. Gilliyan's work however was not over; she was asked to work on a Bahrain horse, which finally finished in 9th place.

Gilliyan qualified as an Equine Sports Massage Therapist in early 2001 with Renee Castle based at Wallingford, Oxon. Since then she has had the opportunity to work on horses such as Abbervale Dream, Mister Quigley & horses of the British Endurance Team. Gilliyan has also just been nominated as Equine Sports Massage Therapist for the British Under 21's Endurance Team and will be accompanying them to Italy in September.

Gilliyan often treats other animals such as dogs & cats, but here she tried her hand on a camel. Apparently the camel enjoyed it, perhaps it could catch on….!

Gilliyan would like to extend my thanks to Sue & Beccy Broughton for the valued opportunity of accompanying them to the Endurance World Cup in Dubai 2003, it was an experience I will never forget - Thank you
